DOUG'S WORDS OF WISDOM:
"One of the biggest lessons I have learned is that, unfortunately, you can't go directly to the level you left off with your new career. It took you years to achieve what you did in athletics, and it's going to take a little while to be successful in your new career. I expected to be at the top of whatever I chose right away and it doesn't happen that way. It's a long road back to the top of your new profession."

"Start working on your career now. Take advantage of NGB or USOC training programs. Start networking with the sponsors involved in your sport. Most importantly, learn how to communicate."
