ATHLETIC SUCCESSES:
Jim began his luge career at the University of Montana. From there, he was chosen for a development team to train for the 1968 Olympic Winter Games in Grenoble. He finished 28th in Grenoble, the second highest American finish. In 1969 he competed in the first Empire State Games in Lake Placid, NY, then entered the Army and was stationed in Cambodia. He was allowed to leave to train in Europe and competed in the 1970 World Championships in Valdora, Olang, Italy before returning to service in Vietnam. In June of 1971, Jim was discharged and traveled to Germany to train for the Games in Sapporo. He qualified for the team and was the top U.S. finisher in Sapporo in 1972. He continued to train and competed in World Championships in Hammarstrand in 1974, then qualified for the 1976 Olympic Team, finishing 26th at Innsbruck. In 1980 Jim served as the team manager for the Games in Lake Placid where the U.S. team placed 12th.
CAREER PATH:
Jim was raised on a cattle farm in Montana and graduated from the University of Montana at Missoula. He served in the military from 1969-1971 in Germany and in Vietnam as a First Lieutenant Field Artillery. He began working in Real Estate in Denver, Colorado and has held licenses in Montana, Colorado, and Florida, working in every aspect of real estate sales and leasing. For the past 18 years, he has owned and operated Moore County Real Estate Brokers. He has held various volunteer positions, including President of the Pinehurst Southern Pines Board of Realtors, and is currently President of the North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee Olympians.
