CAREER:
Certified Athletic Trainer/Physical Therapy Intern, Vrije University Hospital

ATHLETIC SUCCESSES:
Peter started skating at age seven and took up ice dancing at age 14. From 1987-1993 he skated with partner Rachel Mayer, finishing 9th in the Junior World Championships in 1987 and winning the U.S. Junior National title in 1989. They jumped to the senior circuit and finished second in the 1992 U.S. National Championships and qualified for the Olympic team in 1992 where they finished 15th. After Mayer's retirement in 1993, Peter paired up with Kate Robinson from 1994-1998, winning the Basel Cup in Basel, Switzerland in 1995 and finishing third at the U.S. National Championships in 1997. They were the first alternates for the 1998 Olympic Team.

CAREER PATH:
Peter decided that he wanted to be a physical therapist after spraining his ankle in high school. He was amazed with the treatment he received, and decided it was the perfect way to remain connected with sport after he retired from competitive figure skating. While he was training, he enrolled at Boston University, where also he worked in the Sports Medicine Department as a Student Athletic Trainer. He served various other internships in physical therapy while in school, and after graduation he worked as a Certified Athletic Trainer at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs from 1993-1996 while he trained. He has held a number of positions in athletic training and physical therapy and is currently working as a Physical Therapy Intern at Vrije University Hospital in Amsterdam while completing his Masters Degree in Physical Therapy. Peter holds numerous certifications and has published and lectured extensively.

PETER'S WORDS OF WISDOM:
"Olympic experiences are to be cherished forever. The key is to use them to help you find your passion, your 'niche' in life. Being an Olympian should not be thought of as a final accomplishment, but rather a springboard for future success."

"I love what I do. It's really that simple. Whether it's on or off the ice, I spend time doing the things that I feel a passion for. Along the way, I began to realize that both of my chosen careers were an excellent compliment to each other. Once I began to fully appreciate this win-win relationship, it only drove me to develop further. I know many athletes will say that they could not possibly find the time in the day to take on another responsibility, or their training would suffer. My response would be that there is always time if you are truly passionate about what you do."
