Phoebe trained with legendary gymnastics coach, Bela Karolyi. She broke onto the international gymnastics scene at age 14 as a member of the U.S. team at the 1987 World Championships. In 1988, she won the U.S. National All-Around title, and placed first at Olympic Trials, qualifying for the U.S. Olympic Team. She went on to win the bronze medal on balance beam at the Games in Seoul. She also finished sixth on floor exercise and eighth on uneven bars, placing her 15th in the All-Around competition and leading the U.S. team to a fourth place finish. Phoebe later went to the University of Miami on a diving scholarship. She won the Big East Diving title for 10-meter platform, and qualified for the U.S. National Diving Team. Phoebe has been honored as a member of the U.S. Gymnastics Hall of Fame.

After graduating from the University of Miami, Phoebe got involved in snowboarding and took a job as a coach of the team at Okemo Mountain resort in Vermont. She then went on to coach with the U.S. Junior National snowboarding team for four years. Phoebe has also remained involved in environmental policy work, interning in Washington, D.C. for the Defenders of Wildlife and for Representative Bill Richardson. She also volunteered for the Center for Environmental Citizenship and for Earth Alert. Recently, she moved back to Vermont and enrolled at Vermont Law School in a dual degree program to get her JD and Masters in environmental studies. Additionally, Phoebe has remained involved in gymnastics, establishing and directing clinics and giving motivational speeches for gymnasts at colleges and private facilities throughout the country.
